Lap 39: Felipe Massa has spent the whole race chasing after Liuzzi following their pitlane repairs at the end of lap one. They are now together, fighting over 13th place.
Lap 40: Sutil is just ahead of the squabbling pair in 12th and hasn't been able to pull away since passing his Force India team-mate.
Lap 40: Webber reports his tyres are slowly starting to go off. He faces a lengthy stint on soft rubber if he pits any time soon.
Lap 40: Hamilton sets the fastest lap at 1m18.810s and closes to 10.2 seconds off the lead.
Lap 41: Vettel is the next man to take the fastest lap with a 1m18.650s.
Lap 41: Hamilton is told to look after his rubber as Webber's fades. He is now just nine seconds off the lead.
Lap 42: Sebastien Buemi has done a great job all day. He is eighth and now catching a four-second gap to Nico Rosberg, who is seventh.
Lap 42: Behind the intriguing top five battle, Kubica is falling away in sixth with Rosberg also drifting in seventh and no real battles in the latter half of the points.
Lap 43: Massa decides it is time to have a go at Liuzzi. Seconds out it's round two between the pair at Turn 1 and the Brazilian takes the outside line. It doesn't pay off and the Force India driver holds on to 13th.
Lap 43: The gap is down to 8.2 seconds between Webber and Hamilton as the leader is arriving behind a wall of traffic.
Lap 43: Massa is fed up sitting behind the Force India and pits. He takes on hard tyres and will run to the end.
Lap 44: Webber will resume behind team-mate Vettel if he stops at the moment in that large gap building to sixth-place man Kubica.
Lap 44: Alonso is the next man on a charge as he clocks a 1m18.567s.
Lap 44: Hulkenberg defends his position against Adrian Sutil by taking the straight-line route at the final chicane. It will be interesting to see if the stewards feel the Williams driver gained an advantage. This is the battle for tenth.
Lap 44: Alguersuari pits the Toro Rosso and rejoins the action in 12th place.
Lap 45: Webber is losing out horribly in this traffic and his lead is fading rapidly.
Lap 45: Alonso still has Hamilton right in his sights and will be keen to resume the scrap between this explosive pair.
Lap 45: The Hulkenberg-Sutil battle for tenth is temporarily halted as the leaders come through to put a lap on the midfield men.
Lap 46: Hamilton and Alonso are now in this heavy traffic and the Ferrari is right with the McLaren.
Lap 46: Christian Horner tells Vettel to try and pass those infront as they are going to the finish.
Lap 46: Webber continues to fall backwards and is just 3.6 seconds ahead of Hamilton at the line.
Lap 47: Hamilton's rear tyres look in reasonable shape at the moment but the second-place man has a long way still to go if he is to finish on this rubber.
Lap 48: Behind this amazingly tight scrap at the front, Kubica is sixth but 42 seconds down on the leader. Rosberg is four seconds further back in seventh.
Lap 48: Vettel is told on the radio that the Red Bull team is managing an issue, whatever that means.
Lap 48: Hamilton is now just 1.7 seconds behind Webber, who has extensive rear graining in the Red Bull.
Lap 49: Jarno Trulli retires from the race and that looks like brakes all the way as he dejectedly jumps out of the Lotus.
Lap 49: The gap is even closer now and a move for the lead is developing here.
Lap 49: Alonso will look to pay back Hamilton for his earlier opportunism as the McLaren looks for a way to take the lead.
Lap 49: Buemi has now caught Rosberg and we have a battle looming over the seventh position.
Lap 50: Hamilton is right on Webber for the lead now
Lap 50: The McLaren man sends another great move into Turn 1 and Hamilton leads again in Canada.
Lap 50: This has been a truly sensational grand prix so far and there are still 20 laps of action to go.
Lap 50: There is chaos further back as Hulkenberg in tenth leads a train with Sutil, Alguersuari, Massa and Liuzzi all right behind him.
Lap 50: Alonso is now looking to pass Webber, who surely must pit shortly.
Lap 51: Webber seems set for fifth place no matter what he does. He pits.
Lap 51: Hamilton leads by 1.9 seconds over Alonso. Button is a further 2.6 seconds behind, with Vettel fading slightly now 9.8 seconds off the lead.
Lap 51: Massa is on the move towards the points. He passed Liuzzi one lap ago and has just overtaken Alguersuari for 12th place.
Lap 52: That pack all plan to run to the finish and Webber's only hope now is that he finds great pace on soft rubber while the others run out of grip.
Lap 52: Buemi has been into the pits from eighth. This promotes Schumacher with the Swiss rejoining in ninth spot.
Lap 52: Hamilton is building his lead at the moment and is now 3.2 seconds up on Alonso.
