Lap 53: Button is the man on the move now as the track seems to be coming to the McLaren men. He is right on the case of Alonso now.
Lap 53: Massa is on the tail of Adrian Sutil and the fight for 11th place continues.
Lap 53: Webber has come out 20 seconds off the lead but isn't quicker despite his fresh rubber.
Lap 54: Alguersuari is coming back towards the Sutil-Massa fight and it's now a three car train as they attempt to lap Kovalainen.
Lap 54: Massa takes advantage of the traffic scenario and slices up the inside of the Force India at Turn 6. The Ferrari is now 11th.
Lap 54: Button remains right with Alonso's Ferrari but is still to make a move that could give McLaren another one-two.
Lap 55: Replays show Sutil waving his hand in the air in disgust at Kovalainen as Massa was pulling that move on him.
Lap 56: Timo Glock is in the pits and there looks to be trouble for the Virgin driver. He was in 20th and last position.
Lap 56: Webber finally finds some speed on the soft tyres and clocks a 1m18.655s but he has an 11 second gap to catch team-mate Vettel.
Lap 57: A mangle in traffic delayed Alonso and Button steamed around the outside to take second at Turn 8.
Lap 57: Massa - now free of the Force India pair - is homing in on Nico Hulkenberg very quickly. When he catches the Williams the battle will be on for the final point.
Lap 58: Alguersuari runs wide at the Turn 8 chicane. He loses a couple of seconds and that is enough to put Liuzzi right on his gearbox. Liuzzi needs no second invitation and takes 13th from the Spaniard.
Lap 58: So, it's now a McLaren one-two in Canada as Hamilton leads by 3.1 seconds from Button. Alonso will want to make amends for that slip in traffic and is right on Button to take the place back.
Lap 59: Hamilton will be happy to let that scrap rage behind as he tries to protect his rubber to the finish.
Lap 59: Webber is making progress on his soft tyres and is closing on team-mate Vettel. His pace isn't enough to threaten the podium places currently, however.
Lap 60: Button is closing on Hamilton at the moment and his tyres look to be in the best shape thanks to his smooth driving style.
Lap 60: Sebastien Buemi wants the eighth place back that he has occupied for much of the race. But, to get it he'll have to pass Michael Schumacher.
Lap 61: Hamilton leads by 2.1 seconds over team-mate Button in a thrilling Canadian Grand Prix.
Lap 61: Alonso is right with the world champion and this could be a very close finish with just over eight laps to go.
Lap 61: Schumacher defends to the inside on the long run down the penultimate straight, but Buemi comes back into Turn 1 and passes Schumacher to retake eighth.
Lap 62: Hamilton is responding to that pressure and sets the fastest lap of the race. 1m18.025s stamps the leader's authority on proceedings.
Lap 62: Nico Hulkenberg has been in for a stop. That releases Massa into tenth.
Lap 62: Also, Liuzzi has overtaken his team-mate Sutil for 11th.
Lap 63: Robert Kubica stopped for fresh soft rubber in recent minutes and sets the fastest lap at a quick 1m17.606s.
Lap 63: Alguersuari is now 13th and Hulkenberg rejoined in 14th position.
Lap 63: Hamilton is pushing on but is told to look after his tyres with the 3.4 second lead gap looking good for the McLaren man.
Lap 64: Robert Kubica has also been into the pits and Rosberg moved up to sixth. The Pole is now chasing down the Mercedes driver.
Lap 65: Massa quickly caught up to the back of Schumacher and made a move to pass. Schumacher held the position and Massa has damaged his front wing.
Lap 65: Massa is now into the pits and the Ferrari mechanics change the wing. He rejoins, out of the points.
Lap 66: That's a great shame for Massa. He's driven hard all day from the back to try and get a point or two and when he gets there an incident with Schumacher knocks him down the field again - a wasted good drive.
Lap 66: So that incident promotes Tonio Liuzzi into the points and tenth position. He is another who has had to fight hard from the back.
Lap 67: Hamilton leads by 3.5s over Button in second. Alonso is third with Vettel fourth and Webber fifth with under three laps to go.
Lap 68: Now Liuzzi is catching Michael Schumacher as a battle for ninth develops.
Lap 69: The Williams of Nico Hulkenberg is in trouble with gear ratios and he's hitting the limiter well before the end of the penultimate straight.
Lap 69: Nevertheless he's still attacking Alguersuari hard for 12th.
It has been another sensational afternoon with decisive overtaking moves once again making the difference in a hard-fought scrap at the top.
Liuzzi is also fighting hard with Schumacher in a fight for ninth ... he sends a move up the inside but the German holds him off.
