There are some laudable aims behind the planned 2021 Formula 1 engine regulations that came out of the recent meeting between team bosses, the FIA, the commercial rights holder and potential new manufacturers.
Chief among them are simplifying the internals of the power unit (by discarding the MGU-H), restricting development costs and reducing "extreme designs".
It would appear the next-generation regulations will be far more restrictive. For fans of advanced technology and those that want to see variety, that's not great news.
