Stat Attack: Belgium

Michele Merlino investigates the records and compiles the stats ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix

Belgium personal scoreboard

Jenson Button has only one podium finish, in 2005 - the last time he scored points. He has retired five times out of eight starts and last year the Belgian Grand Prix was his only retirement of the season. In qualifying his balance against his team-mates is 4-4, but the last time he started inside the top-10 was in 2005

Lewis Hamilton was disqualified from the first F3 race in 2005 but went on to win the second one. In 2008 he won from pole, only to be penalised and demoted to third. In 2009 he was hit from behind and his race ended on the first lap

Michael Schumacher dominates the chart with six wins at the track where he made his F1 debut in 1991 and took his maiden win the following year. His last visit here was in 2005, when he retired. Excluding three retirements and a disqualification (in 1994 when he had won the race), he has always finished first (six times) or second (three).. In qualifying he has beaten his team-mates 12 times out of 13

Like Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel was disqualified from the first F3 Euro Series race back in 2005 (that race was won by Adrian Sutil). In 2006, racing in Formula Renault 3.5, he was hit by debris in the first race, suffering injuries which prevented him taking part in the second one. He had a steering problem in his Toro Rosso in 2007 but came back in '08, finishing fifth and posting the fastest lap

Felipe Massa won the 2008 race after Hamilton was penalised and has qualified on the front row in his last two visits. Ferrari team-mate Fernando Alonso has never started from the front row and never won.

Rubens Barrichello claimed his maiden pole in 1994

Between 2007 and 2009, Jaime Alguersuari raced here in four different championships: he won the Formula Renault Italy race in '07, he was third and fourth in British F3 '08 and sixth in the Formula Renault 3.5 race three months before last year's grand prix, from which he retired

Jarno Trulli holds the record for the fastest lap of the current circuit: 1m44.503s, set in the second qualifying session last year. He has out-qualified his team-mates 10-1, beaten only by Jean Alesi nine years ago in changing weather conditions. But his only points finish was sixth in 1998, two laps down.

Teams

BMW Sauber has never retired or finished outside the top 10. It only qualified outside the top 10 when Robert Kubica was 14th in 2007. The best race result is a second place by Nick Heidfeld in 2008

Ferrari has won the last three races - the best sequence at Spa for the Maranello team. The all-time best is McLaren's five from 1987 to 1991

Force India scored its only pole and podium last year with Giancarlo Fisichella

McLaren has not won since 2005, although it was first with Hamilton in 2008 before the Briton was penalised

Williams has not won since 1994, when Damon Hill inherited victory after Michael Schumacher was disqualified.

Other notes

In last year's second qualifying session, the top 10 cars had an average speed higher than 150mph

The last non-Ferrari or McLaren win was in 1998 (Damon Hill, Jordan)

In the last 16 editions, the pole-sitter won only three times: 2000, 2002 and 2007
