Schneider: title not secure yet

Bernd Schneider is taking nothing for granted in the DTM championship battle heading into the penultimate round of the season this weekend

The Mercedes driver has an 18-point lead over Tom Kristensen with just 20 remaining, which means that a sixth place at Le Mans on Sunday would seal the title.

"My 18-point advantage is good, however, nothing is decided yet," said Schneider. "I still need to score another three points, so my team and I remain focused and we will give it our all again at Le Mans."

The pair are tied on number of race wins at the moment with two apiece, although Schneider hasn't been able to add to his tally since winning the opening two races of the year.

The German has clinched a championship in France before; he won the International Touring Car Championship for Mercedes in 1995 with a pair of victories at Magny-Cours.

Kristensen and Audi have a fantastic record at Le Mans, although they are more used to racing on the full length circuit every June for the 24 hour race.

With little of the main circuit used for the shorter layout the seven-time 24 hours winner knows he is unlikely to have any advantage, but several of his team mates have pledged to help take the title fight to the wire.
