Paffett says winning not realistic
Gary Paffett has not set himself the target of repeating his historic Oschersleben DTM victory in an old car this season
The 2005 champion became the first man to win a race in an older car when he took his 2006-spec Mercedes to victory in the second race of the season last year.
But as he prepares for his second campaign in an old car, he is aiming to have a more consistent year.
"We won a race last year, which was more than we could have hoped for, but we can't go into this year aiming to do the same," Paffett told autosport.com.
"It would be great to do it again, but we can't just be racing for that. We need to be more consistent through all of the races."
The 27-year-old scored points in five races last year, although he only finished in the top eight once in the final half of the season as Mercedes and Audi developed their new cars.
Despite being disappointed about racing a one-year-old car again, he believes he has a much stronger package for this season.
"The car is a lot better than last year," he added. "What we have at the moment is pretty good. In testing, we were already as quick as in qualifying last year at Oschersleben."
Paffett finished ninth in the standings last year. He was the top driver in a one-year-old car, although Paul di Resta was fifth in a two-year-old Mercedes.
