Mercedes: No Coulthard deal yet

David Coulthard's second DTM test with Mercedes is not an indication that the former grand prix winner will race in the series this year, according to the manufacturer's motorsport boss Norbert Haug

The Scot drove a C-class at the Algarve circuit this week, but despite mounting talk of Coulthard becoming the latest ex-Formula 1 star to join the DTM, Haug says that a deal is not close.

"Nothing is finalised, this is all speculation at the moment," said Haug. "David did a good job [in the first test] and he was keen to drive once more.

"David is a good friend of Mercedes, and of mine, but that's not the reason [for the test]. He is a fantastic guy, and he can give us very good feedback as well.

"The starting point for this was years ago when David said he was keen to get an impression of a DTM car. I think it's important for him to know how such a car behaves."

If Coulthard did join Mercedes' DTM line-up for 2010, it would most likely be in an old-spec car.
