Kristensen fastest at Oschersleben

Tom Kristensen set the pace on the first day of DTM testing at Oschersleben on Tuesday

The Audi driver set his best time late in the day to snatch the top spot from Bruno Spengler by half a second.

Daniel la Rosa was third fastest in a 2006-specification Mercedes, and he was just ahead of reigning champion Bernd Schneider.

Former GP2 driver Adam Carroll set the seventh fastest time in a 2005-spec Audi on the first day of the test, although the Ulsterman has not been confirmed to race for the Futurecom TME team yet.

Carroll was four tenths of a second faster than reigning F3 Euro Series champion Paul di Resta, who was the next best driver in two-year-old machinery with the ninth quickest time.

There were 12 cars on track during the first day of testing, and it is likely that this number will remain similar throughout the week, as teams rotate which drivers take to the track on each day.

"The team won't take all of their cars," Jamie Green told autosport.com last week. "But the driving will be shared around, so we should hopefully get around one and a half days each."
