Dumbreck switches to Opel
Peter Dumbreck has signed to drive for Opel in this year's DTM, meaning that he will remain in the series after being dropped by Mercedes at the end of last season
The Scot is the fifth driver to be confirmed in Opel's 2003 line-up, alongside Manuel Reuter, Timo Scheider, Alain Menu and Jeroen Bleekemolen.
"I'm very happy, being able to continue contesting the DTM," said Dumbreck. "I'll be working hard to fight for victories with Opel. My first impressions of the Astra V8 Coupe and the entire team are really good, which makes me look towards to season with great confidence."
Opel motorsport director Volker Strycek said: "We watched Peter Dumbreck during our evaluation as well as over the past three DTM seasons. He's not only quick, but goes about his work with remarkable composure, concentration and focus on results. Peter possesses ample DTM experience, has won races, and will definitely strengthen our team."
Dumbreck first competed in the DTM for Mercedes in 2000. A move to the crack AMG team alongside Bernd Schneider led to the Scot finishing third in the 2001 championship, claiming two victories along the way. However, for 2002 he was moved to the Persson squad, and failed to score a single point campaigning a year-old CLK coupe.
