Drivers vow to give circuit big send-off
DTM drivers have pledged to give the Hockenheim Grand Prix circuit a fitting send-off when the infamous tree-lined, 4.24-mile layout is used for the final time for a major event on Sunday
From next year, a shortened version of the track will be used for both the German Grand Prix and the DTM, cutting out the long blast into the forest section and its numerous chicanes. But series stalwarts say they will do everything to put on a good show for the circuit's final race this weekend.
"We, as DTM drivers, will once more give everything in Hockenheim to gives the fans one last unforgettable experience," said Mercedes' Bernd Schneider.
His AMG Mercedes colleague Uwe Alzen who, like Schneider, won a race at the venue last year, is also sad to see the track go, but wants to be the man who wins that all-important final event.
"It's a pity that the track will be changed, the old one is quite special," he said. "The slipstream fights on the long straights were really good fun. I will attack in Hockenheim. I want to repeat my success of last year and of Zandvoort [the previous round, which he won]."
