Di Resta stays calm despite poor run

DTM rookie Paul di Resta is relaxed about his recent run of bad results which have dropped him from first to sixth in the championship

The reigning F3 Euro Series champion was the surprise championship leader after three races this season, but he has not added to his points tally in two incident-packed races since then.

Di Resta retired from his home race at Brands Hatch on the first lap after getting caught up in an accident, and he had a troubled afternoon last weekend at Norisring which resulted in him finishing one lap down in fifteenth.

However, the Scottish driver has said that he is not going to dwell on his misfortune, and he is taking heart from the fact that he showed good speed during the race at the Norisring.

"It's important that you're still fast, that's the main thing," di Resta told autosport.com, "and speed hasn't been a problem.

"We've just had a bit of bad luck, sometimes the luck is with you and sometimes it's not. We just have to keep trying."

Di Resta was caught up in a first corner accident last weekend with Susie Stoddart and Martin Tomczyk, but while running in clear air he was able to lap as fast as eventual race winner Bruno Spengler, and he set the third fastest lap of the race.

"What happened was unfortunate, but when other people collide and they catch you, what can you do?" he added. "I was just a victim again like at Brands Hatch.

"But you can't sulk about it, you just have to get on with it. If you look at the lap times anyone can see that speed-wise we've been there."

The 21-year-old also admitted that he was not concerned by the championship situation.

"I'm not looking at the championship," he said. "I'd like to be at the front, but right now I'd rather just get back on the podium."

Di Resta is now sixth in the DTM standings, but he is just 9.5 points adrift of Bernd Schneider at the halfway stage of the season.
