Audi promises DTM fightback

Audi motorsport chief Dr Wolfgang Ullrich has vowed his company will bounce back in the DTM after being defeated by Mercedes-Benz in 2010

Audi's run of DTM titles came to an end this year, when only Mercedes drivers Paul di Resta, Gary Paffett and Bruno Spengler went to the season finale with a chance of the title, with di Resta taking the crown.

Ullrich pointed to a number of factors behind Audi's downturn.

"2010 was a difficult year for us," he said. "It did not turn out as expected, or as we would wish.

"There were many reasons - maybe it was due to not getting the best from the tyres, or maybe it was having to re-work the R15 for Le Mans.

"We were capable of taking many DTM wins, but everything that could go wrong did go wrong."

Ullrich believes the difficulties of 2010 can now be used to motivate his team for next season.

"We are always working to be number one, but you can't always be number one," he added. "We are still here and we are determined to make it different for the coming year.

"I believe we will. Everyone at Audi is very motivated."
