Zandvoort DTM: Timo Glock takes pole for BMW before rain hits

Timo Glock secured pole position for the first DTM race of the weekend at Zandvoort, with BMW locking out the front two rows in a rain-affected qualifying session

The arrival of a heavy shower at the Dutch track just beyond the halfway point of the 20-minute session - just as most drivers were heading out for their second runs - effectively froze the running order from the first runs, which took place in bone dry conditions.

A lap of 1m27.823s was enough for ex-Formula 1 driver Glock to seal the top spot, as he ousted Augusto Farfus by 0.084 seconds.

The pair were the only two to breach the 1m28s barrier, with reigning champion Marco Wittmann taking third with a best of 1m28.065s.

Maxime Martin, BMW's top driver in the points, was fourth ahead of the best of the Audi drivers, Rene Rast, who was 0.464s slower than Glock.

Loic Duval made it all-Audi third row in sixth place, ahead of Tom Blomqvist's BMW and top Mercedes runner Gary Paffett.

Audi pair Mike Rockenfeller and Mattias Ekstrom completed the top 10.

Mercedes' top title contender Lucas Auer endured a difficult session, ending up 16th, ahead only of the sixth and final BMW of Bruno Spengler and the Mercedes of Edoardo Mortara.
