Mercedes pays tribute to departing Jamie Green

Mercedes has paid tribute to DTM driver Jamie Green following the announcement that he has left the manufacturer after eight years in the series

Green confirmed on Monday morning that he will race for Mercedes's long-time rival Audi next year. He is known to have also been approached by BMW during 2012 about a drive in the future.

The 30-year-old Briton made his DTM debut with Mercedes in 2005, having been supported by the manufacturer during his victorious F3 Euro Series title-winning season the previous year.

In total he won eight of his 83 races, took six pole positions and set 13 fastest laps.

On only one occasion did he fail to finish a season in the championship top six, while his third place in this year's points marked his best season to date in terms of results.

Mercedes motorsport vice-president Norbert Haug said: "Jamie was already a member of the McLaren and Mercedes young driver programmes 15 years ago.

"During eight years together, Jamie and Mercedes achieved eights wins and third place in the championship in 2012.

"Jamie is now looking for a new challenge, which he agreed with us, which we accept and for which I wish him much luck and success.

"On behalf of everybody in the team, I would like to thank Jamie for his hard work and his loyalty."
