Turner ready to play team game

Darren Turner says he will play the team game for SEAT at Knockhill this weekend, despite taking pole position for Scotland's British Touring Car Championship round for the second year running

Turner grabbed his second pole of 2008 by a hundredth of a second from teammate Jason Plato, but admitted that his aim for race day is not necessarily to win, but to help the other Leon TDI finish as high as possible in the hope of Plato closing the 44 point gap to Fabrizio Giovanardi, who qualified seventh.

"Jason is second in the championship and could still win it while I can't, so there's no point me robbing points off him," Turner told autosport.com. "If he ends the season three points off the title because of me finishing ahead of him in a race, we've achieved nothing as a team.

"I'm fine with that because we're a team here. It's not like someone is getting on the radio when you're leading and telling you to pull over. That's a difficult situation, but this is a case of recognising what's best for the team and putting together a gameplan."

Turner took his pole with only two flying laps, a remarkable achievement that saw him able to sit in the pits for the final 20 minutes of the session and save on tyres.

"They (the team) told me 'Darren, you just go out and get pole, and we'll see what we can manage with Jason on his 36 kilos of ballast,' and thankfully he got second, so I think we're looking pretty strong," he added.

"Let's just hope that we don't have the mechanical problems that we had at Snetterton and Oulton Park. If we do that then I think I can have a couple of podiums."
