Turkington quickest again at Brands

Colin Turkington proved that he will be a genuine pole position contender by topping the second British Touring Car Championship free practice session at Brands Hatch

The Ulsterman continued to prove that the rear-wheel drive BMW is the car to have on the Indy circuit as he led a one-two for the German manufacturer with a time of 48.986 in his WSR-run version.

Mat Jackson was only 0.127 seconds adrift of Turkington in the ex-Andy Priaulx 320si that he is now driving for the BMW Dealer UK team.

In a session that saw 11 drivers dip under the morning times, Tom Chilton improved considerably on his morning pace to go third in the best of the Team Dynamics Hondas while Matt Neal recovered from his minor technical problem in the opening session to go fifth quickest for Vauxhall.

Jason Plato and Darren Turner looked extremely strong mid-way through the session, but dropped to sixth and seventh in their diesel SEATS as some drivers elected to take a qualifying simulation late on.

Steven Kane, Adam Jones and Tom Onslow-Cole completed the top ten while defending champion Fabrizio Giovanardi was down in 13th in his Vauxhall, coming back to his garage early, like the SEATs.

One of the Robertshaw Chevrolet Lacettis came to a standstill temporarily at the entrance to Clearways mid-way through the session while Mike Jordan and Stuart Oliver had a near miss with each other at the same corner less than a minute later.
