SEAT dominate Snetterton day one

SEAT dominated the opening day of British Touring Car Championship testing at Snetterton as Jason Plato and Darren Turner both dipped under the official lap record to lead a one-two for the Spanish manufacturer

After going second in the morning session, 2001 champion Plato set the best time of the day, setting a mark of 1:12.100 in the afternoon to knock his team-mate Turner off the top spot by just 0.038 seconds.

The SEATs were over half a second clear of the chasing pack, who were led by the championship leading Vauxhall of Fabrizio Giovanardi in third and the Team Halfords Honda of Tom Chilton.

Colin Turkington was fifth quickest in his Team RAC BMW while Gordon Shedden's Halfords Honda and Rob Collard's Motorbase BMW were next up - the driver of the latter car putting in a brilliant lap in the afternoon after going slowest of all during the morning.

Harry Vaulkhard was an impressive eighth for Robertshaw Chevrolet while Adam Jones' Team Air Cool SEAT and Stephen Jelley's Team RAC BMW completed the top ten.

Matt Neal and Mat Jackson both set top-ten times during the morning, but could not repeat the form during the afternoon, despite both improving their times.

Mike Jordan was the only driver other than Turner and Chilton not to improve his times during the afternoon. The Eurotech-John Guest team chief ended up half a second slower than his team-mate and son Andrew.

The test continues tomorrow with all 15 drivers plus Michael Doyle, whose In-Tune Racing team never intended to run on day one after re-shelling their Honda Civic over the weekend, expected on-track.
