Plato says Chilton ruined his weekend

Jason Plato claimed his British Touring Car round at Rockingham was ruined by Honda driver Tom Chilton after the pair clashed in the second of three races on Sunday

The duo made contact at the Deene hairpin on the first lap and Plato was forced to pit to check for damage to his SEAT, and dropped to the back of the field.

"The weekend was totally ruined for me by Tom," he said, after eventually finishing the race ninth.

"You just can't change your line in a braking area. We were coming down from 130mph into a hairpin and he just turned left into me. It wrecked his race as well as mine."

But Chilton responded by blaming Plato for the incident: "He made two schoolboy errors," Chilton told Autosport.

"He outbraked himself, used me as a bumper, and took us both off the track, and then he missed his apex at the next corner and I got back through.

"He needs to grow up, stop being a cry baby, and start taking responsibility for his own actions."

Plato's poor weekend dropped him from third to sixth in the championship, where he's now 28 points adrift of leader Fabrizio Giovanardi.
