Mat Jackson expects to fight for the 2012 BTCC title with Motorbase
British Touring Car race winner Mat Jackson believes he can fight for the 2012 title after being confirmed at Motorbase Performance for a third season
Motorbase has confirmed its line-up will be Jackson and Liam Griffin, who both drove for the squad in 2011, and tin-top racer Aron Smith.
The team will prepare revised versions of the Mountune turbo-engined Ford Focuses it ran last season.
Jackson hopes the continuity of machinery will help him while other teams, including the works Honda and MG squads, get to grips with new NGTC racers.
"We showed last year that we have the car and skills in place to compete against the big boys," said the 30-year-old, who finished fourth in the 2011 standings. "Hopefully the other teams will experience some teething problems that we can capitalise on.
"It's fantastic to be back driving with Motorbase for the third year in a row - it feels like home now! We have the same core personnel in place for this season, which I believe is key to our challenge for the outright drivers' title."
Team Principal David Bartrum is also pleased with the team's development over the winter. "We will be continuing with the same cars from last year, which we learnt a lot from in our first season.
"Mat will be starting in a car he knows well, which has been further improved, so there is no reason why we can't mount a serious championship challenge as we did last year."
