Leslie takes Oulton Feature pole
David Leslie and Laurent Aiello made it a Nissan Primera front row for tomorrow's 34-lap Feature race, round 24 of the Auto Trader British Touring Car Championship
In one of the more bizarre qualifying sessions, almost everyone left it until the last minute to go out.
The problem was that an earlier series had dropped oil on the track during their session, and the resulting cement dust had made the track slippery.
As a result, everyone wanted everyone else to go at first and clean the circuit.
So with just six minutes remaining of the half-hour session, only five cars had set a time.
Then everyone headed down pit lane at the last minute, with some drivers only having time for a single flying lap.
That was all Leslie needed to take pole, his 1:23.509 well clear of all the previous runners.
He had time for one more lap, but didn't need it.
Aiello, by contrast, put in a slow first lap but saved the best to last, going 0.17s slower than Leslie after the chequered flag had fallen.
James Thompson was the best of the rest, the Honda Accord driver over 0.4s away from pole, and only fractionally ahead of the Renault Laguna of Jason Plato.
Leading Independent was Matt Neal, in another Nissan; he was tenth quickest, over a second faster than the Renault Laguna of Will Hoy.
