Aiello and Leslie to fight it out

Nissan's Laurent Aiello and David Leslie go head-to-head at this weekend's Oulton Park rounds, knowing that victory could take one of them nearer to the drivers' title

It will be the first time the Touring Car stars have raced on the 2.36-mile Island circuit of the Cheshire venue.

With just two meetings of the 26-round BTCC season remaining, the championship has developed into a fierce two-way battle between the Nissan drivers.

It is now mathematically impossible for any driver other than Nissan's works pair to claim the drivers' crown, so the season's finale could well see fireworks flying within the team.

Laurent Aiello currently holds a 22-point lead at the top of the standings and is red-hot favourite to add the British title to his German and French honours.

However, team-mate David Leslie is gunning for glory and knows he is unlikely ever to have a better chance to win the championship.

Leslie would be the first British driver to hold the title since fellow Scot John Cleland in 1995.

Nissan has already claimed the manufacturers' title, and has placed no team orders on the two drivers.

'We set out at the beginning of the year to capture every title for Nissan,' said Leslie.

'The rule was that we should not take each other off as that would harm the team. Now that the silverware is in the bag, Laurent and I can have a proper scrap for the title.'
