Howell wants full-time drive

Gareth Howell is aiming to land a full-time drive in the 2007 British Touring Car Championship before the end of this year

For the past two years, Howell has been drafted into the Team Halfords line-up to help them secure the teams' championship title, but he doesn't want to play the same role for a third year running.

"I don't think physically or mentally I could hack that again," he said, "it's very difficult to prepare if you're forever not knowing.

"I want everything wrapped up by Christmas, knowing what is going on."

Howell has taken victories in both of his part-seasons with Team Halfords and feels that he could perform even better if he was able to concentrate on a full campaign.

"When you're in for just the final few races you have to drive differently," he added. "You've got less time to prove yourself so you take more risks.

"I've got into a few scrapes these past two years, but if I was driving for a full season I know I'm capable of adjusting my style."

Back-to-back champions Team Halfords have yet to confirm which car they will use for 2007, as a switch to Super 2000 rules means the successful Honda Integra will not be eligible to win the championship next year.
