Giovanardi prepared to be patient

Fabrizio Giovanardi has said that he is in no rush to get into a heated title battle with championship leader Jason Plato at the moment

The Italian has closed the gap on the SEAT driver in the standings by winning four of the last six races, but he is happy to let Plato lead the championship at this stage.

"I really don't care to lead the championship just yet, I prefer to leave Jason in front," said Giovanardi.

"This is not the time to fight too much, it is the time to wait and keep the pressure up."

The former Spanish, Italian, and European touring car champion added that his strong results in his second season in the BTCC have come because he is more comfortable with Vauxhall's new Vectra.

"I'm feeling at home now because I'm not in trouble with everything like last year," he said.

"Now I know the way, I know everything and I'm at home. If Jason is in front he has more success ballast and he has the pressure on. I'm a guy who makes a lot of pressure."
