Four drivers docked points after Croft
The BTCC's cost-cutting engine limitation rules claimed more victims at Croft, with four drivers suffering a loss of points
MG's Warren Hughes, Egg Vauxhall driver Paul O'Neill, Proton's Phil Bennett and Production class racer Rob Collard all lost points after the North Yorkshire race weekend. Competitors are only allowed to use four engines over the season and any further motors cost five points apiece.
Points leader James Thompson and Bennett were the first to suffer at the last meeting at Mondello. Bennett has now moved onto his sixth powerplant and leads the engine sinners list with a 10-point deficit. Hughes, O'Neill and Collard moved on to their fifth engines at Croft and have been docked five points.
Honda's Andy Priaulx is also on his fifth motor, but manufacturers new to the series this year are allowed one 'free' engine between its drivers and Honda has chosen to use that for Priaulx. Proton still has one up its sleeve which it is keeping for its top points scorer David Leslie.
