Brands Hatch set for 26-car event

Twenty-six cars are set to line up on the grid at the next British Touring Car Championship round at Brands Hatch on September 24

The addition of several independent outfits means that the field could be the biggest in the BTCC since 1994.

Four drivers are set to make their debut in the series. Chris Stockton and Darren Dowling will drive a pair of Lexus IS200s for BTC Racing, while Mark Jones will drive a similar car for NJL Racing.

Daniels Motorsport will field one of the older shape Vauxhall Astras for Nick Leason, while several cars that missed the last round at Knockhill are expected to return.

BTCC Series Director Alan Gow has pushed hard to make the championship attractive to independents in recent years, as only Vauxhall and Seat currently have works operations.

"The arrival of these new teams is testament to our regulations that are enabling increasing numbers of new independent teams to enter the BTCC," said Gow.

"As has been proven by five independent teams this year, well-organised privateer entrants are able to realistically target race wins and podium finishes in the BTCC."

Eoin Murray, Mark Smith and Erkut Kizilirmak have confirmed they will return for the Brands Hatch round, and the grid will reach 26 if the Fast-Tec and Thurlby Motors with Tech-Speed teams can find drivers for their vacant cars.
