Brands Hatch BTCC: Second Turkington win sets up four-way showdown

Colin Turkington's second British Touring Car Championship victory of the day at Brands Hatch to move to within 10 points of series leader Sam Tordoff with just the final race of the season remaining

Turkington started from pole position in the Team BMR Subaru, although he was carrying 75kg and had the less favourable soft tyres, as was fellow front row starter Rob Austin in the Handy Motorsport Toyota Avensis.

As Turkington sped off in the lead at the start of the race, Austin - whose Toyota was fitted with 66kg of success ballast - started a huge defensive drive against the second Subaru of Jason Plato.

Plato eventually passed Austin as the Toyota man fell back behind the Honda of Gordon Shedden as well.

Turkington was forced to defend heavily from Plato but with three laps to go the second Subaru started to lose pace and left Turkington free to win.

Behind Plato and Shedden, Josh Cook took fourth in his Triple Eight Racing MG ahead of points leader Tordoff in his WSR BMW 125i M Sport.

Shedden is now only two points adrift of Tordoff at the head of the standings.

The top 10 was completed by Aiden Moffat (Ciceley Racing Mercedes-Benz A-Class), Mat Jackson (Motorbase Ford Focus) and Adam Morgan (Ciceley Racing Mercedes).

Matt Neal was running in sixth place on lap four of the race when the engine on his factory Honda Civic Type R suffered an electrical problem and slowed.

He was collected by Ash Sutton's MG as the Honda was trickling back to the pits, and the Civic was fired into the wall on the run from Druids to Graham Hill Bend.

Neal was checked over by medics but will start the third event from the back - he is fourth in the points, 20 behind Tordoff and the last man in with a shot of the crown.

NEWS UPDATE: Neal ruled out of finale with concussion

Jackson has been drawn on pole position for the finale. Tordoff will start third, with Shedden fifth and Turkington seventh.
