Adam Morgan to step up to BTCC with Speedworks Toyota

Adam Morgan will step up to the British Touring Car Championship this year with Speedworks Motorsport

Morgan, who has been given the drive in the NGTC-spec Toyota Avensis as his prize for winning the BTCC-supporting Ginetta Supercup in 2011, will test the car for the first time next month, and is determined to "hit the ground running".

"It's a brilliant prize and I can't wait to get started," said Morgan. "I want to get out and do as much testing as possible. I want to hit the ground running, try and make an impact and let people know I'm quick and that I can compete."

Speaking on the main stage at AUTOSPORT International, team principal Christian Dick said: "From our side of things it's all our dreams come true. We've climbed the ladder with Ginetta, watching Ginetta come on as a firm.

"As [Ginetta boss] Lawrence Tomlinson rightly says, he has brought on young talent through the series. He has developed the series. We've grown with that too. It's an awesome opportunity.

"We ran one NGTC Toyota last year so we know the car inside out now. We will be taking delivery of Adam's shell in the next two weeks and we will be building the car from there."

Tomlinson, whose Ginetta concern is funding the prize, worth around £250,000, said that Morgan was a deserved champion.

"When we launched the Ginetta Supercup, we had a new car - the G55 - and we wanted to put up a really special prize to attract the top drivers to the series and being part of the BTCC package we just felt that it would be fantastic if we could raise the funds to make the prize a fully sorted drive in the BTCC," he said. "The racing was very competitive and it worked very well for us.

"Ginetta are paying all of the costs. I think the tyre and fuel suppliers are helping out and [BTCC boss] Alan Gow has waived the entry fee. Adam really has just got to pay for his practicing and some extra tyres. Unbelievable prize and I'm sure he will do us proud."

Tony Hughes, who raced for Speedworks in 2011, will remain with the squad as team-mate to Morgan.
