Jordan takes first BTCC race win
Andrew Jordan took not only his first British Touring Car Championship race win, but also the first for the new-generation TOCA engine package, in the third of today's races at Croft
Jordan started from pole position for the reversed-grid race in his Vauxhall Vectra run by the family Eurotech team, and was gifted a three-second lead on the opening lap. He then looked after his tyres and maintained the gap to the chasing Tom Onslow-Cole on his way to victory.
"It's good to get the first win because now people will stop asking me when it's going to come," he said. "It was one of the easiest races I've ever done."
Tom Boardman turned Onslow-Cole sideways at the first corner. Somehow the Ford man held on to the slide and established himself in second.
Rob Collard made progress up the order in his WSR BMW and looked as though he might challenge the Focus, but a stray piece of debris was flicked up and turned off his master switch. Collard coasted into the pits and rejoined to finish one lap down.
In a race of attrition, title contenders Matt Neal and Jason Plato both suffered punctures. Neal parked his Honda, which was suffering with rising temperatures anyway, while Chevrolet man Plato rejoined after a stop. Gordon Shedden, winner of the first two races in his Honda, sustained steering damage at the first corner and struggled home to ninth place.
That left Steven Kane to take a sensational third in his Motorbase BMW. Kane was 19th on the grid and was sixth with a lap to go, but surged ahead of Tom Chilton's Ford plus the Honda Integra of Paul O'Neill and SEAT of Boardman, this pair having entertained the crowd royally with their unruly battle.
