Race 2: Mullers' BMW sweep

Cynical driving from Alfa Romeo driver Augusto Farfus could not stop BMW Team Deutschland notching up its second 1-2 finish of the day at Spa-Francorchamps. This time it was Jorg Muller that won from team-mate and new championship leader Dirk Muller

Farfus, who received a stop-and-go for his behaviour, drove dangerously from the beginning of the race. He pushed two cars off the track and, once he knew he had incurred a penalty, deliberately blocked the field to allow his team-mate Gabriele Tarquini a chance of escaping.

Farfus started the race alone on the front row after Franck Diefenbacher's Seat didn't make the grid. But Antonio Garcia got a fantastic getaway to get his BMW alongside the Alfa as they headed towards Eau Rouge. Farfus simply weaved left and drove the Spaniard off the track.

This allowed Tarquini, Jorg Muller and Andy Priualx through. Muller then passed Tarquini for second into the Bus Stop.

It took Muller a lap to catch Farfus and then as the pair went up the hill to Les Combes on lap three, Muller drew alongside before finding himself obliged to drive along the grass courtesy of the Brazilian. Muller hung on around the chicane until finally Farfus pushed him off again and the German was forced to back off and dropped behind Tarquini.

Farfus received his penalty on lap four as Muller moved back past Tarquini with a spectacular slide through Les Combes. But Farfus slowed to give Tarquini a chance to retake the position. Muller, trying to escape the ridiculous antics of the Alfa at the front, went wide and allowed the Italian through.

Farfus came into the pits, but not before slowing the field enough to create a train of eight cars behind him. Once free of the Brazilian, Muller swiftly caught and passed Tarquini, such is BMW's current performance advantage.

All this time Dirk Muller had stormed through the field and took second from Garcia at La Source. The Spaniard finished third with Tarquni fourth as his tyres faded. Priaulx finished fifth having to barge his way past James Thompson who was performing rear gunner duties for Tarquini. Tom Coronel was sixth.

"It was very disappointing what happened [with Farfus]," said Jorg Muller. "It wasn't hard driving, it was completely unfair. I know that he received a penalty but there should be an investigation because that is not what touring car racing is all about. There is no place for it in this championship.

"It was a good race for me though and I knew I had a good car. You can't ask for better results from me and Dirk."
