Muller determined to bounce back
BMW works driver Jorg Muller is determined to put two unhappy seasons behind him when the 2006 World Touring Car Championship commences at Monza this weekend
Muller came within a single point of the European title in 2003, but slipped to fourth in 2004. Last season was even worse, with the German failing to score in over half the races and finishing a distant fifth in the championship.
After those disappointments, Muller regards 2006 as a crucial year.
"I had a lot of bad luck in the last couple of seasons," he said. "That's why in 2006 I want to prove that I am still a driver to be taken seriously.
"I hope I will be able to prove that in Monza already."
BMW were quickest in testing at Monza last week, with reigning champion Andy Priaulx fastest by 0.5 seconds.
But Muller's Schnizter teammate Dirk Muller reckons that the likes of Alfa Romeo and SEAT will be closer to BMW this weekend.
"I don't believe they all showed their full potential," he said. "That's why I am intrigued to find out which driver is how strong this weekend."
