Farfus bounces back in Spain

Autodelta's Brazilian rookie Augusto Farfus has bounced back from the mid-week penalty that took away his debut win and third place in the opening rounds of the FIA European Touring Car Championship in the best possible way - by taking pole position for round three in Valencia tomorrow

Alfa Romeo team-mate and reigning champion Gabriele Tarquini had set the pace throughout free practice, but ultimately could not match the youngster's 1m40.819s time.

Another former champion, Fabrizio Giovanardi, was third fastest to make it a clean sweep for Autodelta, although the Italian was nearly a second shy of the pace.

BMW Team Great Britain ace Andy Priaulx, currently second in the championship, was fourth fastest and the top 320i driver. Frank Diefenbacher was less than a tenth behind the Guernseyman in the first of the improving factory Seat Toledo Cupra machines.

Italian Luca Rangoni was sixth fastest in the privately-entered Oregon Team Alfa Romeo, having ranked as high as fourth fastest during free practice.

Dirk Muller lines up on the inside of row four in the first of the BMW Team Deutschland 320is ahead of Spaniard Antonio Garcia in the BMW Team Italy-Spain example. Silvatore Tavano made it good day for Oregon in ninth ahead of Jordi Gene driving another of the Seat Toledos.

Championship leader Jorg Muller could manage no better than 12th, while former Champ Car champion Alex Zanardi was 14th.
