ETCC qualifying: Giovanardi once again

Fabrizio Giovanardi kept up his 100 percent qualifying record in the European Touring Car Championship at Jarama in Spain. He qualified on pole once more, with Nordauto Alfa Romeo team-mate Nicola Larini backing him up in second

Reigning champion Giovanardi set a scorching 1m42.571s, while Larini maintained second position with a lap of 1m42.676s, just 0.105s behind his team-mate.

Schnitzer BMW duo Jörg and Dirk Müller will start third and fourth position respectively, with Paolo Ruberti (AGS Motorsport Alfa Romeo) in fifth. The Italian ousted local hero Luis Villamil (Bigazzi Alfa), who was also bettered by Rickard Rydell's Volvo S60, but the Swede will be forced to start from the back due to changing his engine between races.

"The engine was damaged during a shakedown test at Millbrook a few days ago and we have been forced to change it," said team manager Dave Benbow.

Rydell's team-mate James Hanson, Tom Coronel (Carly BMW 320i) and Jordi Gené (Ravaglia BMW 320i) were next up.
