BTCC's Jordan eyes Lydden World Rallycross win with Peugeot-Hansen

Former British Touring Car champion Andrew Jordan has targeted a win on his debut for Team Peugeot-Hansen at the Lydden Hill World Rallycross Championship round

Jordan claimed a podium finish as a championship wildcard last season with the OlsbergsMSE Ford team, but will drive a factory Peugeot 208 in this year's Motorsport News World RX of Great Britain.

He tested with the Peugeot-backed Hansen squad in France last week before the Thruxton BTCC round.

"The car is very good," Jordan told AUTOSPORT. "It still surprises me how quick they are, but I felt at home early on in the test.

"Last year to get a podium was more than I expected, so I need to manage my expectations.

"But I think I was rusty in terms of the whole rallycross scene last year.

"Ideally I'd like to win the event. That's my aim, but I know how tough it is and I know how many good people there are in World RX.

"I think we'll be a frontrunner, the aim is to try and be top three on pace throughout the weekend."

Jordan was a protege of 1992 European Rallycross champion Will Gollop as he rose through the discipline, culminating in second in the British championship in 2007 driving a Gollop-engineered Ford Focus.

He then switched to the BTCC, winning the title in 2013, and currently races for the factory MG team.

HANSEN LINK 'REALLY COOL'

Jordan's switch to the Hansen team for his World Rallycross one-off was sparked by his position as a Red Bull athlete.

The energy drink company sponsors the Peugeot outfit, which is run by 14-time European Rallycross champion Kenneth Hansen.

"I've watched Kenneth since I got into rallycross when I was 13 years old," Jordan added.

"Having worked with Will, Kenneth was the top dog from the European scene, so to get to work with him and the whole family is really cool.

"He's a very nice guy, he knows his stuff and I get the impression that he's a good calming influence.

"You need somebody who's making decisions and spearheading the team to be like that."
