Nyirad European Rallycross: Timmy Hansen claims maiden win

Swedish driver Timmy Hansen claimed his first rallycross victory in empathic style at round three of the European Rallycross Championship, held at Nyirad, Hungary

The young Citroen driver only led the race for two corners, snatching the win from the hands of his team-mate, Timur Timerzyanov, at the very end.

"This is absolutely amazing," said Hansen. "I really can't believe it, Timur's been so fast all weekend but I just had enough in the final. The car was so perfect."

Hansen and Timerzyanov had shared the front row, but it was Frenchman Davy Jeanney from the second row who made the best start, slotting in between Timerzyanov and Hansen.

Jeanney made a bold attempt at making a move around the outside of Timerzyanov to take the lead at the end of the first lap, but he ran wide, allowing Hansen into second.

Hansen jokered on lap two, with Jeanney taking his joker on lap three. Timerzyanov left his joker until the last lap, but his lead was not enough, Hansen just sneaking through.

Timerzyanov carried incredible speed out of the joker lap, making contact with the rear of Hansen's car as he tried to find a way past, but nothing could stop his team-mate claiming victory.

Jeanney finished third, ahead of Knut Ove Borseth, Peter Hedstrom and Alexander Hvaal.

Former World Rally Championship star Petter Solberg ran third in semi-final two, but picked up a puncture on the third lap, destroying his chances of fighting for a place in the final.

It was a day of debut victories in Hungary, with Reinis Nittis winning the Super1600 category, Daniel Lundh heading the field in TouringCar and William Nilsson claiming victory in the JRX category.
