Wilson tips Martin for victory

Malcolm Wilson, team chief at Ford Rallye Sport, has tipped his lead driver Markko Martin to score his first World Rally Championship victory on this weekend's Rally of Turkey, according to this week's AUTOSPORT magazine

Wilson believes his team's Focus WRC cars are ideally suited to the terrain that is expected as Turkey makes its debut on the WRC calendar.

"Markko's the one," Wilson told AUTOSPORT. "Given that Francois Duval and Mikko Hirvonen will both be going for finishes. I think Markko can do it. We've heard about how rough the conditions will be in Turkey and everybody knows how good the Focus is on these roads. Markko is also very quick in rough conditions, as he showed in Greece and Cyprus last season."

Wilson said he will be keeping a careful eye on Duval, who crashed out on the Swedish Rally earlier this month: "His record since Finland last year has been abysmal. He's got a new co-driver for this season and he needs to work on that relationship and get up to speed with that. It's very important that he makes it to the finish."

The Rally of Turkey gets underway with a superspecial this evening (Thursday) at 17:00 GMT before the rally proper starts early on Friday morning. Martin will start fifth on the road, with team-mates Duval and Hirvonen ninth and 14th respectively.
