Wilson relieved to finish first day
Matt Wilson says that he was happy to simply complete the first day of Rally GB, rather than worrying about his position in the event
The British driver came through the first leg of the rally in sixth place on Friday, and while he is pleased to be in a points-scoring position, he said that he main focus had been to survive the difficult conditions.
"To just be back here in the service park is an achievement," Wilson told autosport.com. "It was unbelievable out there at times, it would have been easy to do something stupid.
"You couldn't see more than a few feet in front of you, so you just had to take everything as it came."
Wilson is five minutes down on rally leader Mikko Hirvonen, but he is hoping to hang on to his position to score points on his home event.
"It's nice to be where we are in our home rally, so we just have to see what we can do tomorrow," he said.
"But it will depend on the conditions. We will have to see what the weather is like tomorrow before we decide what to do."
