SS6B Rezzo 2: Bugalski blows 'em away

Citroen's Philippe Bugalski tore apart the opposition on the last stage of the leg one, completing the short rerun through Rezzo five seconds clear of team mate Jesus Puras. But it is the Spaniard who leads the rally going into leg two, one and a half seconds clear of Gilles Panizzi's Peugeot 206

Panizzi was third fastest on SS6B, with team mate Didier Auriol and the third Citroen of Sebastien Loeb setting identical times to finish fourth quickest. Loeb moves ahead of world champion Marcus Gronholm to fourth overall after the Finn only managed to set the seventh fastest time on the stage, 14 seconds off Bugalski's benchmark.

Ahead of Gronholm, the Ford Focus of Carlos Sainz was again the best of the rest of the non-PSA cars, and the Spaniard will be zeroing his sights in on Gronholm on leg two, as he lies in seventh overall, 14 seconds behind the Peugeot star.

Petter Solberg and Markko Martin failed to set matching times on Rezzo, but only just. After setting identical times on SS6, Solberg finished two tenths ahead of his Estonian team mate on the last test of the day with the eighth fastest time.

Tommi Makinen new Mitsubishi Lancer rounded out the top 10, and the man with whom he shares the championship lead, Colin McRae, was 11th quickest. In the overall standings it is McRae who has his nose in front, but he's still lying back in 11th, with Makinen 23 seconds and one place back in 12th.
