Service D - Imperia: Tough at the top
Jesus Puras (Citroen) first: Reported that his Xsara felt good and his confidence had grown as the day went on. "I had a much better second run over the stages this afternoon."
(Peugeot) second: Complained of a vibration on the last stage which was caused by a damaged wheel-rim. Annoyed to lose a total of 14 seconds on Puras over the longest stage of the day, Langan: eight on the first run, six on the second.
(Peugeot) fourth: Still complaining about Peugeot's decision to use a five-speed gearbox instead of the usual six to play safe on reliability. But changed his driving style during the day by revving the engine harder to accomodate the 'box.
(Peugeot) sixth: Suffered a gearbox problem changing down gears that forced him to go manual rather than using the paddle shift. "It's very harsh. Sometimes the wheels lock up as I'm changing down."
(Ford) 13th: Stalled twice trying to get off the line on stage six. Reported that the transmission problems from this morning did not improve during the day.
(Mitsubishi) 14th: "The transmission was a bit better after we left the last service, and for the first one of the last three stages it was better, but then it started to go again."
