SS15, Rhondda 2: Gronholm holds on
Outgoing World Champion Marcus Gronholm sent out a clear message to Peugeot team mate Harri Rovanpera on SS15, telling his fellow Finn that he has no chance of scooping a last-gasp Network Q Rally GB victory
Gronholm outpaced Rovanpera by 10.7secs on the 26.47km Rhondda 2 test, underlining his overall lead at 1m46.7secs.
Rovanpera, who grabbed second place on SS14, increased his advantage over third placed Richard Burns on SS15, gaining another 10secs on the Subaru star. Burns's third place is enough to give him the world title, so he just needs to survive the next two stages to be crowned.
Further back, Armin Schwarz is on a charge in his Skoda, determined to overcome the fourth placed Hyundai of Alister McRae. The German was fourth quickest through Rhondda 2, taking another 32secs out of the Scot's advantage, which now stands at 53.2secs.
McRae's team mate Kenneth Eriksson is also under attack for sixth place, but he weathered the storm from Peugeot's Didier Auriol on SS14 and actually extended his lead over the Frenchman by 8secs. The gap between them has now gone out to 33secs.
Bruno Thiry (Skoda), Gregoire de Mevius (Peugeot) and Toshi Arai (Subaru) continue to round out the top 10.
