Rally boat docks in Cyprus
The delayed ferry carrying cars and equipment for the Cyprus Rally docked in Limassol overnight and has been unloaded, so that crews can use their regular kit for the remainder of the event. Sparks have already flown though because Ford and Peugeot managed to find more suitable substitute vehicles for yesterday's recce run, breaking - it is alleged - a gentleman's agreement
The ferry had been delayed by storms in the Mediterranean, forcing crews to use locally-sourced cars for the first recce run. Right-hand drive 4x4 SUVs were thought to be all that was available - not ideal because the driver's eye view of the stages is very different from up high on the right in an SUV to his angle of vision in the rally car; low down on the left.
While Subaru, Citroen and Mitsubishi used SUVs yesterday, Ford and Peugeot managed to find some Group N Mitsubishi Lancer rally cars (most of them left-hand drive) to use. That has prompted suggestions that there was a gentleman's agreement in place that all would use the same sort of recce cars - and that this has been broken.
