Works teams lost at sea!

This weekend's Cyprus Rally, the fifth round of the World Rally Championship, has been thrown into disarray as the ship ferrying all the works teams' equipment has not yet arrived just a day before the ceremonial start. Teams have been forced to start the recce with locally-sourced hire cars

The vessel will not arrive in Limassol until tonight, well after the start of recce this morning, forcing teams to hire cars for the task. The delays have caused organisers to make a number of changes to the pre-event build-up.

The Roll-On, Roll-Off ferry was due to dock for loading at Salerno, near Naples, on Wednesday, May 5, but was delayed by storms and didn't arrive until the evening of Friday, May 7. It is due to arrive at Limassol tonight (Wednesday) to allow teams to unload their cars and equipment.

This isn't expected to pose any major headaches for the teams, other than less time to prepare the service park and the WRC cars themselves and the potential for an 'all-nighter' to do so. Organisers have also re-scheduled the pre-event press conference for Thursday evening to free up more time for the delays.
