Peugeot signs Carlsson

Peugeot has given the first insight to its driver strategy for 2005 and beyond by promoting young Swede Daniel Carlsson to a 307 WRC for the up-coming Rally GB and taking up its option on him for next year, according to this week's Autosport magazine

Peugeot's move is reckoned to be an indication that it will change its driver line-up for 2005 and that Carlsson, who has driven a 206 WRC in most of this year's rounds, will be a part of its plans, though his programme has not yet been laid out in detail.

Former world champion Marcus Gronholm is the only driver confirmed in Peugeot's front-line squad, but rumours suggest that Markko Martin has signed an option with the team, which would see the Estonian in a Peugeot if Ford does not take up its own option on him.

"There are always rumours, but it is too early to say anything about drivers yet," said Peugeot team boss Corrado Provera. "All we are confirming is that we have taken up our option on Daniel. It is not settled what car, what events or what status he will have in the team, he will have. We are aware that we must not put too much pressure on him too early."
