Sweeping changes proposed
The FIA's World Rally Championship Commission is to present a number of far-reaching proposals to the World Motor Sport Council in October, including an immediate allowance of teams to use a safety car - effectively a gravel crew - on the final two asphalt rallies of the year in Corsica and Spain

This will go some way in appeasing the works rally crews, who were up in arms following the heavy accidents that left six drivers and co-drivers in hospital on Rally Deutschland. The 'safety car' initiative will continue for all asphalt rallies in 2005, although only one car will be used to supply information to all teams.
The Superally concept has been revamped, with competitors no longer scoring points on each day as planned. Crews will be entitled to restart the next leg if they have dropped out during that day, but will incur a five-minute penalty per stage missed.
A calendar for the 2005 season was also released, and is as follows.
January 20 - 23
February 10 - 13
March 10 - 13
April 7 - 10
April 28 - May 1
May 12 - 15
May 26 - 29
June 16 - 19
July 7 - 10
August 4 - 7
August 25 - 28
September 15 - 18
September 29 - October 2
October 13 - 16

The 2006 and 2007 calendars will be based on the same dates. The WMSC will meet on October 13 to consider the proposals.
