Loeb admits Gronholm is faster
World Rally Championship leader Sebastien Loeb admits that he does not have the pace to challenge Marcus Gronholm on the Acropolis Rally at present
Gronholm has taken a clean sweep of stage victories on leg one, while Loeb could only manage third place behind Petter Solberg, 35.5 seconds down on his title rival.
Loeb has suffered from running first on the dusty roads today, but he did not use this as an excuse for his relative lack of speed.
"Nothing to do at the moment," said Loeb. "I try hard. We don't have the same tyre choice (as Gronholm), but I think my tyre choice was not bad and I can do nothing.
"I think I cleaned the road again a bit but Marcus is just faster at the moment."
Having lost several rally victories to mechanical problems this season, Gronholm is remaining cautious despite ending the first leg with a 26.3 second advantage over Solberg.
"That's not too bad," he said. "The car is perfect. But now I want to be in this position on Sunday."
