Latvala, Solberg hit late trouble
Henning Solberg is in line for a surprise podium in the Rally Argentina after both Jari-Matti Latvala and Petter Solberg hit trouble in the closing stages
Latvala had planned to have a conservative drive to third behind the dominant Citroens today, but his Ford cut out on the leg's first stage, costing him eight minutes.
"There was a little jump, and suddenly after the jump we lost the oil pressure," said Latvala. "The car stopped. We tried a lot of things with the buttons, and suddenly when I was rebooting the whole system it started again."
That proved to be a one-off glitch, and the car has since run flawlessly.
Latvala's delay allowed Petter Solberg to move up to third, but just when he seemed to be on course for his new team's second podium, the former champion suffered fuel pressure problems on the next stage. Unlike Latvala, Solberg was not able to continue and had to retire.
That elevated his brother Henning to third for Stobart Ford, ahead of Munchi's Ford's Federico Villagra and Stobart's Matthew Wilson.
With every other WRC driver either retired or delayed, Latvala has been able to continue in sixth position.
