Hirvonen delayed by accident

Ford's hopes of beating Citroen to the manufacturers' championship have received a blow after Mikko Hirvonen rolled in SS5 of the Rally GB

The Finn had been trying to catch up after an over-cautious run through this morning's icy stages left him back in 11th place at the end of the first loop.

He was able to continue to the end of the Sweet Lamb stage following the accident and believes the car has escaped unscathed.

"It had to happen sometime, but it was quite a bad roll," said Hirvonen. "But we've got here and the car is okay."

The incident has cost Hirvonen nearly four minutes, and will leave him outside the top 40 once the full field has completed the stage.

Ford trail Citroen by 11 points going into the season finale, as the French team bid to reclaim the manufacturers' crown after two consecutive Ford titles.

Sebastien Ogier continues to lead the event ahead of Mads Ostberg, with Sebastien Loeb now ahead of Ford's Jari-Matti Latvala in third.
