Ford predict strong Tarmac form

Malcolm Wilson believes that Ford will be able to give Sebastien Loeb a hard time on Tarmac rallies in the second half of the season

Marcus Gronholm's victory in Greece last weekend gave the Finn a nine-point advantage over Loeb at the halfway point of the season, but there are still several Tarmac rallies to come, where Loeb usually excels.

However, Wilson believes that the Ford World Rally Team will be strong enough to make things difficult for the reigning world champion on his favourite surface.

"I know Sebastien is looking forward to the Tarmac rallies, but we've got an evolution coming and it might not be plain sailing for him," he said.

"It's exciting times for us. I don't want to divulge details about the new car or else Sebastien would get so depressed.

"We don't underestimate the task ahead, but it's a great position to be in and stronger than this time last year."

Wilson also feels that Subaru's return to form could help Ford's push for the championship, and he is hoping that Petter Solberg might be able to take points away from Loeb at some events.

"It's great to see Petter back in the fight," he added. "It's a welcome return, we just hope he can get ahead of Sebastien a few times."
