Burns and McRae: Our snowbank hell

British rally stars Richard Burns and Colin McRae have both suffered massive time losses due to getting stranded on snowbanks during the opening three stages of the Swedish Rally - and both admit they have no chance of victory

Subaru's Burns lost 13 minutes on a snowbank in SS2, but was fastest on SS3, while Ford's McRae lost 6 minutes in similar fashion on SS3. Autosport.com caught up with the disgruntled duo at the first service at Torsby.

"I just braked too late for a junction left after a fast sixth gear section," said Burns. "I knew I wasn't going to make it around the corner, but I got turned in and tried to use the snowbank...I went straight through it. There just wasn't enough people to get us back out quickly. I'm going to keep going. Markko [Martin, his Subaru team-mate] will have the choice of the tyres, I'll take what's left. I'll maybe play with the car and there are some new stages to see."

McRae said: "I tried to use the snowbank, but everyone else had been doing it, so I went straight through. I've still got a chance of points, so we can only try our best."

Now, it seems, all they can do is set fast stage times to show what might have been...
