Marklund switches to EKS Audi for World Rallycross Championship

Anton Marklund will switch from a VW Polo to an Audi S1 in the World Rallycross Championship this season, partnering double DTM champion Mattias Ekstrom in the EKS RX team

"This is an amazing opportunity that Mattias and EKS are giving to me, both to score top results in 2015 and to develop on all levels for my future career," said Marklund, who finished second at the Canadian round of World RX last season.

Since his debut in international rallycross in 2011, Marklund has up until now driven for his father Jan's Marklund Motorsport team. He won the TouringCar title in 2012 before making his Supercar debut in 2013.

The relationship between Marklund and Ekstrom was formed in 2013, when Ekstrom raced one of Marklund Motorsport's Polos at the X Games Munich and the Swedish round of the European Rallycross Championship.

"Mattias has been a friend of mine since 2013, when we competed together in X Games Munich. He has helped me a lot already in my career and I'm really glad that I now will join the family of EKS."

Founded by Ekstrom, the EKS RX team made its debut in Norway last season with the Audi S1.

In only the squad's third event, Ekstrom reached the top step of the podium at Holjes in Sweden. In a selected programme, the squad ran several drivers including rally drivers Pontus Tidemand and Patrick Sandell and GT-racer Edward Sandstrom.

Marklund will also contest the new single-make Audi TT Cup in 2015 that will be held in each of the six DTM rounds.
