Strakka reveals new livery for Gibson LMP2 car ahead of WEC return

The Strakka Racing team has unveiled the livery in which its new Gibson LMP2 will race in the remainder of the World Endurance Championship

Strakka finished the new colour scheme of the ex-Greaves Gibson-Nissan 015S on Thursday after running in black in WEC testing at the Nurburgring late last month.

The car completed car, to which the team has switched after abandoning its Dome S103 project, will leave for the fourth round of the WEC at the 'Ring on Monday.

Strakka team principal Dan Walmsley revealed that drivers Danny Watts, Jonny Kane and Nick Leventis were in buoyant mood after a successful first run at the German track, where it was the fastest LMP2 present.

"Missing out on the double points available at the Le Mans 24 Hours has left us with more work to do this season than we'd hoped," he said.

"Now with the successful test, with straight-out-of-the-box pace, the team and drivers are in a more positive frame of mind for the balance of the season, and there's no reason why we can't be back at the front."

The Strakka trio lie eighth in the LMP2 points with the points they notched up for third (following the exclusion of the Extreme Speed Motorsports Ligier) and fifth at Silverstone and Spa respectively.

Watts said that he felt immediately comfortable aboard the 015S courtesy of his experience racing both LMP1 and P2 versions of the car when it was known as a Zytek and a Ginetta-Zytek in 2007-09.

"I'm feeling good about the Gibson," he said.

"I was at the factory last week to adjust the seat and I think we are all looking forward to racing it after some of the highs and lows of the Dome."

Strakka announced in July that it was abandoning the Dome, which it failed to race last season after a series of delays, in favour of designing and building its own LMP1 car for 2017.
